Now that you’ve taken inventory of the people in your life — both real-life and digital. The people who surround us are such an important component of our lives and well-being, yet we may not have a clear picture of what that network looks like. A helpful exercise is to draw a chart with the four tiers of relationships:

  1. Your closest inner circle of friends, family and romantic partner(s) – Intimacy
  2. A wider circle of friends, family and coworkers who have similar interests/values – Friends
  3. Acquaintances and business contacts – Participation
  4. Community – Exchange
  5. Digital relationships – Not in the below diagram

Start populating it with names of individuals or groups and make notes about how much time per week you allocate to each. Now start thinking about adjustments you’d like to make and how to move people in and out of different circles.
